I've photographed this young girl for a few years through all the different fall costumes, from Princess, Fairy Princess and military camo through to this year's witch outfit.
The really fun thing this year is she is now old enough to have actual conversations and I was able to relate to her verbally one on one for the first time.. It's a great age!
Just for fun I created a kid oriented magazine cover found in the header photo.

I learned a lot about the local high school rowing crews on this shoot.
This young man is on the crew from Skyline High School and we went to the boat launch serving the schools in the area. This sport is very technical and we discussed rowing and cars.. great subjects to us both.

These two people came in at separate times and I am combining the sessions here.
In one image, which I am using as the header photo, I created a made up magazine cover just to play around. (I did the same thing in last week’s blog post)
It’s astounding and a bit scary what can be created digitally!

This great young couple came in with their two children and the studio instantly gained a huge energy bump.
Both kids were at an age where they were zoomers and explorers, non stop.. They loved being in front of the camera and it was fun to have conversations as they are just at that stage.
Also I played around and gave their father a magazine cover in Photoshop…

This couple and their Pug, Cleo and I met for the third consecutive year to document her growth (and their engagement) at County Farm Park in Ann Arbor on one of the last sunny days of the season.
As always, Cleo was front and center.

Still grateful for the continued but soon disappearing good weather, this young woman wanted to have her session at Gallup Park in Ann Arbor, a different location for me.
Her preference was for late afternoon to capitalize on the warm, softer lighting.
We wandered through the area, including the boat launch as well as some of the pathways paralleling the river. Her dog was part of the event and was featured along with her owner.
Again, another fun session.

Continuing a series of senior sessions on beautiful fall days I met with this young woman in Ann Arbor’s County Farm Park, one of my favorite locations.
She’s bright, articulate and was a great subject offering interesting conversations and great images.

Latest in a series of fall senior sessions, this young man channeled a definite Gene Kelly vibe.
He was a natural in front of the camera and his outfit and attitude was a perfect fit for a crisp fall photo session.

As I have previously posted, this time of year often gets jammed with senior photo and yearbook requests, this being a case in point.
I met this young woman at one of my favorite locations on a warm fall day to take photos to celebrate her upcoming graduation. She has a great future ahead of her and as I have often stated, it’s a pleasure to meet these bright and personable young people.

Last week I stated that the senior photo session season is filling up and this week’s post is to document another in the series.
We had a great session at one of my favorite locations and this young man was super in front of the camera.
I continue to be impressed by the quality of these young people.

Senior season is here so you’ll see a few of these posts all celebrating a rite of passage.
Some sessions include a studio shot for the yearbook and since I live close to Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park it makes it easy to photograph outside and make the short ride to my studio to finish there.
That’s what this young man and I did on a beautiful morning. We even got lucky with the timing to have the train added to the street scene.

I’ve photographed this young man along his path towards a career in modeling.
We’ve done some initial sessions for agency applications and most recently this time a collection of images to highlight him in the studio and out on location.
The cover image here is a result of editing from color to very high contrast black and white while experimenting with the basic image. When I realized his earrings and the Calvin Klein logo were very much highlighted against the darker tones I saved it and used it here.

I received a request from a delightful woman who lives in my neighborhood for a head shot session in her yard.
Outside sessions are always chancier than studio shoots because of weather and location issues.
In this case we were blessed by a nice day and a phenomenally well landscaped yard with lots of flowers and greenery so the session went very well.. plus my client was very comfortable in front of the camera.

The need for head shots continues.
Job applications. LinkedIn, school information requests, many require a current head shot.
If yours are all out of date or in some cases non existent don’t wait… an easy 20 to 30 minute session solves all these issues as it did in the case of this gentleman who connected with me to set an appointment.

In an example of perfect timing this young woman, her family and I met at the U/M Law Quad to document her graduation from the University of Michigan in the middle of student move-in days!
Outside of the quad, traffic was crazy, parking was virtually impossible and double parked vans and SUVs were the hallmark of the day.
After 30 minutes of cruising I spotted a space on the other side of the street and will not incriminate myself by describing the maneuver I pulled to reverse in traffic and grab the opening.
That done the quad was an island of calm and our session went well… great location.

I was contacted to photograph this delightful young woman to celebrate her senior high school year.
With the weather as hot and humid as it’s been we decided to meet at Ann Arbor’s County Farm Park early in the morning before it got too uncomfortable.
Mission accomplished as we got there just in time of day and year to beat the heat and enjoy the flowers.

I’m diverging from the normal blog format this week to highlight an outstanding local Ypsilanti event, the annual Rutherford Pool Kids Triathlon which is held early August every year.
This event is open to young people ages 4 through 12 and consists of swimming, running and biking in the standard triathlon format.
The kids are intense, emotional and committed.
The parents are…… intense, emotional and committed!
Instead of composites, usually placed below, this link will open a window to the gallery of photos I took while covering the event which I’ve done as a labor of love for many years.
Click on the link titled "Open" and you will be directed to the online gallery where you can browse, share, download and print your photos. (Hint.. you can click on one to display it full size and then arrow forward or backwards). Kudos to the organizers and volunteers making this all possible. Also a shout out to Debbie Dingell, our Michigan U.S. representative who has attended this even for years.

I made use of the studio again when this young man came in for a series of head shots for use in his career path. It’s always good to have current photos for resumes, social media, LinkedIn, etc.

For someone who had virtually no experience in front of the camera this delightful woman became quite comfortable quickly and our session went very well, culminating in a few photos using the floor fan to introduce a slightly windblown effect.
This was another fun session resulting in a communication from a friend of hers who, upon seeing the results, wants me to photographer her as well.

I’ve photographed this great family in my studio before and we decided to do this birthday session in Ypsilanti’s Candy Cane Park, one half a block from my home.
It was a hot, humid day and they all made it fun with Frisbee and ball tossing plus family foot races during the session.
