Last Week In Photography - Yes, More Senior Sessions

Continuing a series of senior sessions on beautiful fall days I met with this young woman in Ann Arbor’s County Farm Park, one of my favorite locations.

She’s bright, articulate and was a great subject offering interesting conversations and great images.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Sessions...Continued

Latest in a series of fall senior sessions, this young man channeled a definite Gene Kelly vibe.

He was a natural in front of the camera and his outfit and attitude was a perfect fit for a crisp fall photo session.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Sessions, Continued

As I have previously posted, this time of year often gets jammed with senior photo and yearbook requests, this being a case in point.

I met this young woman at one of my favorite locations on a warm fall day to take photos to celebrate her upcoming graduation. She has a great future ahead of her and as I have often stated, it’s a pleasure to meet these bright and personable young people.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Sessions

Last week I stated that the senior photo session season is filling up and this week’s post is to document another in the series.

We had a great session at one of my favorite locations and this young man was super in front of the camera.

I continue to be impressed by the quality of these young people.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session

Senior season is here so you’ll see a few of these posts all celebrating a rite of passage.

Some sessions include a studio shot for the yearbook and since I live close to Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park it makes it easy to photograph outside and make the short ride to my studio to finish there.

That’s what this young man and I did on a beautiful morning. We even got lucky with the timing to have the train added to the street scene.

Last Week In Photography - Model Session

I’ve photographed this young man along his path towards a career in modeling.

We’ve done some initial sessions for agency applications and most recently this time a collection of images to highlight him in the studio and out on location.

The cover image here is a result of editing from color to very high contrast black and white while experimenting with the basic image. When I realized his earrings and the Calvin Klein logo were very much highlighted against the darker tones I saved it and used it here.

Last Week In Photography - Outdoor Head Shot Session

I received a request from a delightful woman who lives in my neighborhood for a head shot session in her yard.

Outside sessions are always chancier than studio shoots because of weather and location issues.

In this case we were blessed by a nice day and a phenomenally well landscaped yard with lots of flowers and greenery so the session went very well.. plus my client was very comfortable in front of the camera.

Last Week In Photography - Head Shot Session

The need for head shots continues.

Job applications. LinkedIn, school information requests, many require a current head shot.

If yours are all out of date or in some cases non existent don’t wait… an easy 20 to 30 minute session solves all these issues as it did in the case of this gentleman who connected with me to set an appointment.

Last Week In Photography - University Grad Session

In an example of perfect timing this young woman, her family and I met at the U/M Law Quad to document her graduation from the University of Michigan in the middle of student move-in days!

Outside of the quad, traffic was crazy, parking was virtually impossible and double parked vans and SUVs were the hallmark of the day.

After 30 minutes of cruising I spotted a space on the other side of the street and will not incriminate myself by describing the maneuver I pulled to reverse in traffic and grab the opening.

That done the quad was an island of calm and our session went well… great location.

Last Week In Photography - Morning Senior Session

I was contacted to photograph this delightful young woman to celebrate her senior high school year.

With the weather as hot and humid as it’s been we decided to meet at Ann Arbor’s County Farm Park early in the morning before it got too uncomfortable.

Mission accomplished as we got there just in time of day and year to beat the heat and enjoy the flowers.

Last Week In Photography - Rutherford Pool Kids Triathlon

I’m diverging from the normal blog format this week to highlight an outstanding local Ypsilanti event, the annual Rutherford Pool Kids Triathlon which is held early August every year.

This event is open to young people ages 4 through 12 and consists of swimming, running and biking in the standard triathlon format.

The kids are intense, emotional and committed.

The parents are…… intense, emotional and committed!

Instead of composites, usually placed below, this link will open a window to the gallery of photos I took while covering the event which I’ve done as a labor of love for many years.

Click on the link titled "Open" and you will be directed to the online gallery where you can browse, share, download and print your photos.  (Hint.. you can click on one to display it full size and then arrow forward or backwards). Kudos to the organizers and volunteers making this all possible. Also a shout out to Debbie Dingell, our Michigan U.S. representative who has attended this even for years.

Last Week In Photography - Head Shot Session

I made use of the studio again when this young man came in for a series of head shots for use in his career path. It’s always good to have current photos for resumes, social media, LinkedIn, etc.

Last Week In Photography - Studio Head Shot Session

For someone who had virtually no experience in front of the camera this delightful woman became quite comfortable quickly and our session went very well, culminating in a few photos using the floor fan to introduce a slightly windblown effect.

This was another fun session resulting in a communication from a friend of hers who, upon seeing the results, wants me to photographer her as well.

Last Week In Photography - Family Birthday Session

I’ve photographed this great family in my studio before and we decided to do this birthday session in Ypsilanti’s Candy Cane Park, one half a block from my home.

It was a hot, humid day and they all made it fun with Frisbee and ball tossing plus family foot races during the session.

Last Week In Photography - Portrait and Head Shot Sessions

This blog post highlights two sessions, one portrait and one head shots.

The young woman in the header photo came in never having experienced a professional photo session, understandingly nervous.

By the end of the hour she was relaxed and we even did some lighting changes and wind fan photos.. great fun!

The gentleman in the second composite group needed current photos for business and, again, we had a great session.

Last Week In Photography - Grad Session

I’ve photographed this young woman before and this was a particularly fun session because it was a huge step forward in her educational path.

Having been featured in blog posts as well as under portraits and seniors on my website, she’s now going to be at Wayne State University in the field of medicine.

We actually found the little red phone booth on the Eastern Michigan Campus and photographed there as well.. I never quite knew where it was located….. more fun!

Last Week In Photography - Head Shot Session

This gentleman came to my studio for a head shot update and as usual it was a fun session.

There’s still a great need for updated head shots and although there are options for outside and location sessions a studio visit is a quick and efficient use of the client’s time. As is often the case we were able to include a change of clothing and background options all in a bit under a 30 minute visit.

Last Week In Photography - Stepping In It - Part 2

Last week I published the first part of this blog post and since we took so many photographs I promised a part 2 which appears here.

With two people and four horses the photos needed more exposure to do them justice.

Last Week In Photography - Stepping In It - Part 1

Anyone who is owned by a horse (or horses in this case) knows exactly why this week’s blog post is named what it’s named!

When I was engaged to photograph this couple’s four horses I knew boots would be a necessity.

I’ve known these two folks for a while and photographed them and their rescued Percheron a number of times. Sadly Manny, the gentle giant, passed away recently after years of a better life than he had before coming into the care of people who could not resist saving him.

Now the cycle repeats itself with four gorgeous very large and growing additions to the family.

We met at the stables and one by one photographed them separately and together…. And, yes, boots are the name of the game no matter how carefully one navigates a well populated paddock.

I took so many photographs that to share some of all the horses made this blog part one, to be continued next week.

Last Week In Photography - Grad Session On Campus

It was a gray, windy morning on Ypsilanti’s Eastern Michigan University’s campus when this young woman, her parents and I met to document her graduation.

We started inside and then moved out to the pavilion and fountains where we braved the wind and chilly temperatures.

I mentioned the cold and she responded with “Hey! I’m a Michigan girl” which was proven during the shoot.
