Last Week In Photography - Stepping In It - Part 2

Last week I published the first part of this blog post and since we took so many photographs I promised a part 2 which appears here.

With two people and four horses the photos needed more exposure to do them justice.

Last Week In Photography - Stepping In It - Part 1

Anyone who is owned by a horse (or horses in this case) knows exactly why this week’s blog post is named what it’s named!

When I was engaged to photograph this couple’s four horses I knew boots would be a necessity.

I’ve known these two folks for a while and photographed them and their rescued Percheron a number of times. Sadly Manny, the gentle giant, passed away recently after years of a better life than he had before coming into the care of people who could not resist saving him.

Now the cycle repeats itself with four gorgeous very large and growing additions to the family.

We met at the stables and one by one photographed them separately and together…. And, yes, boots are the name of the game no matter how carefully one navigates a well populated paddock.

I took so many photographs that to share some of all the horses made this blog part one, to be continued next week.

Last Week In Photography - Grad Session On Campus

It was a gray, windy morning on Ypsilanti’s Eastern Michigan University’s campus when this young woman, her parents and I met to document her graduation.

We started inside and then moved out to the pavilion and fountains where we braved the wind and chilly temperatures.

I mentioned the cold and she responded with “Hey! I’m a Michigan girl” which was proven during the shoot.

Last Week In Photography - Quick Head Shot Session

This young man has been working in his parents’ business since the age of 15 and decided it was time to come in for an actual head shot photograph session.

He’s sharp and the session went well.. great future moving forward.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session

We were blessed with a beautiful early summer day and it was a quiet morning in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park.

This graduating senior and I met for a fun session being shared here.

Last Week In Photography - Head Shot Session

Business has been slower this spring and I was happy to fill an open time with a head shot session for this gentleman who was in need of current photos for his social media and business website.

Great conversations and another fun session.

Last Week In Photography - Returning Clients Are The Best

This fun family was in my studio in October of 2024 and returned now to update their photos with a new addition to the group.

As in the past they brought warmth and humor to our session.

Last Week In Photography - Trading Stories

I received a call from this gentleman asking if we could duplicate a high school senior photo to include the original jacket which, amazingly, still fit.

I said we could and an appointment was set for a 30 minute short session.

Well, that didn’t happen as we got into trading stories about our adventures back in the day.. or days.

As you can see from the header photo the jacket is the same.. not so much for the former high school senior! (or me for that matter).

Suffice to say between our mutual “when we were young” adventure stories the 30 minute session stretched just a bit.

Last Week In Photography - New Head Shot Session

This year has gotten off to a very slow start and having this gentleman in for a head shot session was a welcome change.

We used a few different backgrounds and a change of outfit to give him a choice for a finished product.

His personality was refreshing and made for a great session.

Last Week In Photography - Location Shoot In Florida

Please note: It rains in Florida!

Amend that to “It rains a LOT in Florida”!

A few weeks ago I went to visit one of my daughters who lost her home and almost everything personal except her cat to Hurricane Milton on October 9th of last year. She finally was able to purchase a 26 foot RV to live in and had it placed on a lot two days before I arrived to visit with plans to photograph up and down the coast centered on her new home, Seminole.

I arrived in a driving rainstorm to accompanying leakage in the RV and we had one good day of a 7 day stay to deal with mechanical glitches and water… Lots of water!

All is well at this point and she and her cat are settling into RV life.

The photos here are from the one good day we had and were taken at Madeira Beach.

Last Week In Photography - Creative Studio Session

The assignment was to create a series of head shots as well as more emotive poses and background manipulation in Photoshop for corporate usage.

My client was very involved in the session and this was truly a team effort.

Last Week In Photography - Yearbook Session

I’ve photographed this young woman’s family over the years for family sessions as well as professional head shots and this go around was for a yearbook photo.

While we were in the studio we did some full length shots and in post processing I played with some of the backgrounds.

Return clients are the best!

Last Week In Photography - Social Media Photos

This gentleman needed photos for a social media service in India.

We went in a few different directions so the photos would not be the standard head shot format.

He had never had a professional photo session but things went well and he was pleased with the results.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session And Archived Cat Photos

This is a bit of an odd mix of subjects.

This young woman came into the studio for some yearbook and portrait photos and during editing I found some archived cat photos destined for my Pets, People and Animals page.

Both are shown here and have been added to my site.

Last Week In Photography - Playing During A Yearbook Session

I took some warm weather photos of this young woman a while ago and will again when the weather gets warm and the flowers bloom.

This time she needed some basic yearbook photos so we met in my studio for a quick session.

When we finished I asked if she was up for a bit of fun using her hair as a prop and she went all in, the results of that effort being showcased here.

In this first blog post of 2025 I’m sharing images of this delightful family who came into my studio for a session.

They were all great in front of the camera and the photos show the warmth of the relationships they share.

Last Week (Of the Year) In Photography - A Look Back

The cover photo might just be a metaphor for swimming in turbulent waters which sums up 2024 for many of us.

I tried going in a few directions, one of which is a metal print collection and features the above photo and many of my other collected fine art photographs.

Also I have published two coffee table books, one with a curated collection of photos in the metal print group and another dedicated to photos taken over the years of the Lake Michigan shoreline and sunsets at Oval Beach in Saugatuck.

My financial black hole Etsy page is mercifully no more.. no comment.

The photographs featured in this post are of the many wonderful people I met for studio and outdoor sessions and I owe them all a great thank you for their support!

Last Week In Photography - Family Session

This great couple came in to the studio to show off their new daughter.

As usual with a child of this age she had no clue what was happening so we all worked around her and waited for her to notice me.. When she did become aware of me her eyes were totally focused and intense.

Mom is coming in soon for a separate portrait session.. soon to appear here.
